Orange Frost

Cooling Orange with Lanolin and Menthol

We worked very hard to get this scent just right.  A dozen or more variations were tested and rejected before we were completely satisfied, and here it is. A big dose of tangy sweet orange mingled with the smooth fragrance of mandarin and then topped off with an uplifting citrus note of litsea cubeba.  This soap creates a completely refreshing aroma for the hot days of summer, and we added menthol to provide a cooling effect while shaving.  In addition, we have added lanolin and kokum butter to this recipe to make it even more skin nourishing.  This is a soap you won't want to miss.

Ingredients: Potassium Tallowate, Sodium Tallowate, Potassium Stearate, Sodium Stearate, Potassium Shea Butterate, Sodium Shea Butterate, Aloe Vera Juice, Potassium Cocoate, Sodium Cocoate, Fragrance, Potassium Kokum Butterate, Sodium Kokum Butterate, Sodium Lactate, Lanolin, Glycerin, Menthol, Tussah Silk

Crowne & Crane Orange Frost Skin Nourishing Shaving Soap

Posted by Kevin Ansberry on Jun 13th 2017

This review is for the Crowne & Crane ‘Orange Frost’ shaving soap. Please feel free to edit as necessary. I’ve had the pleasure of using this fine soap in the 4oz jar for three consecutive shaves and have been very pleased with the results. ‘Orange Frost’ is a mentholated tallow-based soap, enhanced with the addition of both lanolin and kokum butter. It’s fragrance is described by C&C as “...tangy sweet orange mingled with the smooth fragrance of mandarin and then topped off with an uplifting citrus note of litsea cubeba.” To my nose, it is the orange scent that is distinctly preeminent but with floral overtones. The scent is more than simply ‘pure orange.’ Whereas Stirling’s “Orange Chill” menthol soap scent is solely ‘fresh orange juice,’ C&C’s ‘Orange Frost’ is a bit more complex in fragrance. I find both pleasing, but the C&C scent is slightly ‘exotic.’ Regarding the performance of the C&C ‘Orange Frost,’ as with other C&C soaps, this soap lathers beautifully and with ease. The lather is fragrant, dense and has very good slickness. For straight razor shaving, I find the glide and comfort this lather provides ideal for the task. One can feel the ‘chill’ the added menthol provides to the lather and I find the amount contained in the lather to be sufficient. ‘Menthol Heads’ may desire more in their face-freezing lather (see Stirling’s), but I think C&C has the proper balance. Post-shave: I have fairly sensitive skin ( I prefer soothing balms to astringent aftershave splashes most times). My face feels smooth and soft without a hint of irritation nor dryness following my ‘Orange Frost’ shaves. No menthol redness. C&C makes a matching balm which is, in my opinion, a perfect compliment to the excellent soap and outstanding shaving experience.
